SQA Post-results Services

If a school or college has concerns about a student’s grade for National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher qualifications, they can request a clerical check or marking review.

Who is eligible for the service?

Students are eligible if their final grade is based on materials marked by SQA.

The final decision on whether to submit a Post-results Services request lies with the Argyll College Curriculum Lead or Head of Curriculum and the Quality Officer. SQA cannot accept requests from students or parents/carers.

There are 2 basic elements to the Post-Results Service – they are clerical check and marking review:

clerical check?

A clerical check makes sure that:

  • all parts of the materials have been marked
  • the marks given for each answer have been totalled correctly

marking review?

A marking review makes sure that:

  • all parts of the materials have been marked
  • the marking is in line with the national standard
  • the marks given for each answer have been totalled correctly
  • the correct result has been entered

A priority marking review can be requested if the student requires a result to secure a conditional place at university or college.
