Why choose a Schools Link course?

Schools Link courses provide students with a greater choice of opportunities in a variety of subject areas.

There are many benefits to undertaking a course while still at school and doing so has helped a large number of young people on the path to a successful career.

Students will:

  • Get a flavour of college life and be able to make decisions about their future based on experience
  • Boost their application to college or university by demonstrating a range of additional skills
  • Be taught by industry experts

All of our courses can lead to further study at college, university or to employment so gaining skills and experience whilst still at school makes the transition easier.

Qualifications Explained

All of our courses are SQA certificated and if you pass, will appear on your SQA Certificate along with your Nationals, Highers and Advanced Highers. In some schools, courses start in S3 and build year by year to S6.

Foundation Apprenticeships are a work-based learning qualification, at SCQF Level 6, for secondary school pupils and run over one or two years in S5 and S6.

Schools, colleges and employers are now working in partnership to offer senior phase students opportunities to attain industry-recognised qualifications along with academic studies. Each programme on offer includes a workplace activity, further enhancing skills required within the workplace.

On completion, students are equipped with an enhanced CV, greater confidence, and are able to make an informed choice of either pursuing a Modern Apprenticeship, going on to college or university, or moving straight into employment.

College and universities recognise FAs as equivalent to SQA Highers.

Nationals 4s, National 5s and Highers: These are exactly the same as the Nationals and Highers studied in school. Our offer simply provides you with greater choice if you don’t have access to the course in school.

National Progression Awards: prepare you for employment, career development or further study in a variety of specialist vocational areas.

Skills for Work courses: are designed to prepare you for the world of work. They offer practical experiences linked to careers.

Higher National units: form part of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND). These qualifications provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge for employment or Higher Education.
