Hairdressing Students Showcase Talent at Burlesque Photoshoot

Every year, UHI Argyll third year Hairdressing students complete a photoshoot as part of their SVQ 3 course. Each year, the theme is chosen by one of the students and this year student Micaela chose the theme ‘Burlesque’.

The event is a highlight in the Hairdressing students calendars and much anticipated as the end of the year approaches. The Queens Hall in Dunoon was selected as the venue, bringing the theme to life by making use of showtime props and the backstage area.

First and second year students supported the shoot – a valuable rehearsal for an event they will eventually rise to themselves, and the willing models were both friends of students and regular clients of the college salon.

The burlesque theme allowed students to get creative when styling not only the model’s hair, but makeup and outfits too. Lecturer Sarah commented on how the students used techniques learned throughout the course such as rollers, curls, backcombing and even adding hair to achieve the desired looks.
