Lecturer – Maritime

Salary range Salary for this post will be on the appropriate scale of the national pay scales for college lecturers, which start at £40,170 (pro rata).

Starting in August 2025, this 0.65 FTE post is to teach Maritime Skills subjects to school pupils in Dunoon Grammar School during the school academic year and to our short full-time students in Dunoon and Oban. Some teaching will also take place on the college RHIB at the Holy Loch Marina and in Oban Bay.

The qualifications to be delivered are: Maritime Skills NQ at level 5 and National 5 Skills for Work: Maritime Skills (C26975).

Experience of teaching would be advantageous, but not essential, as all training will be provided.

For teaching the RYA short full-time courses, you will need to be qualified or willing to work towards instructor qualifications in:

  • RYA Powerboat 2 plus additional boat handling training
  • RYA Essential Navigation
  • RYA First Aid
  • RYA VHF / DSC
  • RYA Diesel Engine

School based teaching times at Dunoon Grammar School are:

Monday 14:05 – 15:45

Tuesday 12:30 – 13:20

Friday 13:45 – 14:40

The short full-time course delivery will be discussed at interview but will be one full day delivering RYA subjects and one full day delivering Maritime Studies theory. RYA will require face to face delivery in Dunoon (Aug – Jan) and Oban (Jan to June).

You will be expected to develop any additional materials required for the teaching of these units and learning and teaching materials to be stored within college technology systems.
