Hospitality students host Traitors-style murder mystery on Islay

Skills for Work (SfW) Hospitality students on Islay delivered a fantastic event last month, transforming the Bridgend Hotel dining room into a full Traitors‑style murder mystery experience as part of their final practical assessment.

Six students took the lead in planning and running the event, designing every element of the evening - from the themed challenges to the dramatic 'murders' and banishments that kept gests guessing throughout.

Ten brave participants from UHI Argyll and Islay High School stepped into the roles of Faithfuls and Traitors, while paying guests observed the unfolding drama over a three-course meal. Throughout the night, players plotted, debated, and attempted to banish the Traitors in a bid to protect the prize pot of gold... chocolate coins.

In true Traitors fashion, the Faithfuls banished six of their own and only two Traitors, leaving just two players standing at the end. The ultimate winner was a Traitor - Lynn Mitchell, Head of Islay High School.

Mairi MacCuaig, Islay Centre Manager, and Faithful on the night said:

"The Traitors event was meticulously planned and this was very evident from the moment you walked in the door and were met by masked and cloaked team members pointing to your destination. Game play was fun and involved very willing participation from the audience. The tasks were so well thought out and had us all thinking! Everyone left feeling they wanted to do it all over again."

A huge well done to the students for their creativity, organisation and delivery of a brilliant night's entertainment, and to SfW Hospitality lecturer Joanne Hamilton, aka Claudia for the evening!
