Business and Computing NPAs SCQF Level 6
What is special about this course?
These National Progression Awards (NPAs) will enable you to improve your digital skills and several of them will provide you with insights into the world of business, providing you with an understanding of the contemporary workplace.
These courses are delivered over the whole of the academic year and you'll undertake between 2 and 3 SQA units in each semester.
You'll gain an NPA which is recognised by employers. You can undertake more than 1 NPA at a time but you should speak to us if you wish to do this, so that we can advise you on your chosen course of study.
You may also study a single unit from any of the NPAs - to apply for individual units please use this form.
Entry requirements
- Three National 5s or equivalent
If you don't meet our entry requirements, your previous experience may still qualify you for this course. Mature students will be considered on merit.
NPA Business with Marketing – Course Fee £430
You'll study 5 SQA units:
- Understanding Business
- Marketing: Basic principles and applications
- Event Organisation
- Management of Marketing and Operations
- Skills for Customer Care
NPA Business with Information Technology – Course Fee £344
You'll study 4 SQA units:
Learn to use key word processing and spreadsheets software packages to support the administration of businesses. You will also learn how to identify the key objectives of a business to understand the requirements and how to manage the staff and finances of businesses.
Units:
- Understanding Business
- Learn how to identify the key objectives of businesses in terms of their role in society, customer satisfaction and objectives in different economic sectors. In this unit you will learn about the internal and external factors that impact businesses and the impact stakeholders have on business activity.
- Management of People and Finance
- In this unit you will learn about current employment legislation and how to manage human resources effectively and how to motivate staff to improve effectiveness. You will also learn about sources of finance for businesses and about final accounting and ration analysis.
- Web Apps: Word Processing
- Learn how to use the complex editing, formatting, layout, review, automation and proofing features of Microsoft Word and how to collaborate on, and produce a complex Word document.
- Web Apps: Spreadsheets
- Learn how to use the complex features of Microsoft Excel including Macros and Data Validation. In this unit you will be supported by your lecturer to structure a complex spreadsheet and analyse data, use complex functions, rectify routine errors and use a cloud service for collaboration. You will also learn about data security requirements and procedures.
NPA PC Passport – Course Fee £258
You'll study 3 SQA Units
- Web Apps: Word Processing
- Learn how to use the complex editing, formatting, layout, review, automation and proofing features of Microsoft Word and how to collaborate on, and produce a complex Word document.
- Web Apps: Spreadsheets
- Learn how to use the complex features of Microsoft Excel including Macros and Data Validation. In this unit you will be supported by your lecturer to structure a complex spreadsheet and analyse data, use complex functions, rectify routine errors and use a cloud service for collaboration. You will also learn about data security requirements and procedures.
- Web Apps: Presentations
- In this unit you will learn how different types of media and charts can be embedded in a presentation and how to use advanced editing, design, transition and animation functions in Microsoft PowerPoint. You will also learn how to share and collaborate on presentations. Your lecturer will support you to identify target audiences for presentations and how to ensure you match your presentation to its key objectives as well as using complex multimedia elements to enhance information.
NPA Digital Media – Course Fee £258
You'll study 3 SQA Units:
- Digital Media: Audio
- Learn how to acquire and edit great quality digital audio for podcasts, mp3 and more, using more complex editing tools and challenges than in the level 5 course. In this unit your lecturer will support you to collect and edit digital audio into a digital product.
- Digital Media: Moving Images
- In this unit you will plan a moving image narrative or storyboard, acquire your material and produce an edited product such as a digital video or animation. You will learn about the required hardware and software, storage media, delivery platforms and legal implications of using digital video or animations. This level 6 unit is a progression from the level 5 Digital Media: Moving Images and takes your skills using more complex techniques to the next level.
- Digital Media: Still Images
- Learn how to capture and edit impactful still images using various hardware and software. Learn how to manipulate camera functions and edit still images for a specific brief and how to resolve issues in the production of images. As a progression from level 5, this unit teaches more complex editing and manipulation techniques.
NPA Computer Games Design - Course Fee £258
An interactive course where you'll design, build, and test your own games. You'll learn to create media assets like characters and sounds, plan gameplay, using Javascript for browser based games. It's perfect for aspiring game developers and creative tech enthusiasts.

This course is not available to students who require a Tier 4 Home Office visa to study in Scotland (international or EU).
