UHI Argyll celebrates Further Education Student of the Year 2026

UHI Argyll is delighted to announce that Oban student, Brooke Byars has been named the 2026 Further Education Student of the Year.

Brooke, who studied Level 5 Beauty Care and Makeup, was nominated by her lecturer in recognition of her exceptional commitment, professionalism and personal growth throughout the year. As the youngest in her class, completing the course whilst still at school through a flexible learning plan with UHI Argyll, she has shown maturity, determination and a clear drive to succeed.

Her lecturer, Nicola Carcary, praised both her attitude and her progress, saying:

“Brooke has shown outstanding dedication from day one. She approaches every task with enthusiasm, supports her classmates, and consistently produces work of a very high standard. Watching her confidence grow this year has been a privilege.”

Brooke’s achievements stood out among a highly competitive field of nominees from across the college. Judges highlighted her resilience, willingness to push herself, and the positive impact she has had within the salon training environment.

Throughout her course, Brooke excelled in practical and theory-based assessments, developed strong technical skills, and embraced every opportunity to learn – often volunteering for client work. Staff describe her as a role model for other students and an excellent ambassador for the Beauty department.

UHI Argyll is proud to recognise Brooke and all that she has achieved, we look forward to seeing where her talent and ambition take her next.
