Intro to Art and Design Level 5 SQA Level 5

What is special about this course?

This one year course allows students to experience a variety of art disciplines, and gives an understanding of the skills and techniques used for drawing, painting, sculpture, design, surface decorating, digital imaging and consists of a mixture of practical and theoretical elements which will include lectures, visiting guest artists and visits to exhibitions

Entry requirements

3 National 4s (or equivalent) to include Art and Design and English.

You may be asked to provide at least 4 drawings /  pieces of artwork as part of a portfolio.

 

You will study from a range of subjects which will be confirmed at induction.

  • Drawing Skills – Line and tone
  • Life Drawing
  • Intro to Ceramic Sculpture
  • Art and Design: Surface Decoration
  • Sketchbook Development – thematic studies
  • Art and Design: Intro - Contemporary art practice
  • Art and Design: Intro to 3D design skills
  • Art and Design: Drawing Skills – Developmental drawing
  • Web Content
  • Working with Photographs

Equipment

You will be supplied with equipment and tools and you will be required to pay for additional art materials.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Face-to-face delivery, with hands-on practical work. You will receive taught sessions, completing tasks as instructed by your lecturer.

Fees

Most full-time students will automatically have their course fees paid for this course.   

If you have recently moved to, or do not normally live in Scotland, you may need to pay £5,970 in course fees, these can be paid in instalments. Families of Armed Services personnel are subject to different fees regulations and may also have to pay course fees. If you think this may apply to you, please contact us and we can advise you. 

This course is not available to students who require a Tier 4 Home Office visa to study in Scotland (international or EU). 

Part-time FE students who are on low incomes or in receipt of certain benefits may also have their course fees paid for them. Please refer to page 2 of our Fees and Funding Guide to see if you are eligible.  

What can I do on completion of my course?

Progression in to NC Art and Design Level 6 , and then to various other higher education studies at UHI or other higher education establishments including HNC Contemporary Art Practice.

This course also allows pathways into many creative industries posts including: new media, advertising; graphic design; photography; and fashion.
