What is special about this course?
This NPA (National Progression Award) will provide you with knowledge and skills which are directly relevant to current and/or future practice in the area of Business and Marketing. You will also be able to broaden knowledge and skills by undertaking study in the following areas: market research, promotion, event organisation, customer care and selling skills. As a result, you should be able to progress in education, find suitable employment or progress within your current job role.
As this NPA is at SCQF level 5, candidates may be expected to have groupings of relevant Units at SCQF level 4 and/or any relevant National Qualifications. Relevant employment experience could be used as an entry qualification in some cases.
The course consists of a total of 5 SQA credits, or 30 SCQF credit points. The overall course is at level SCQF 5, but some component units are at level 6 (noted below). There are 2 mandatory units:
- Management of Marketing and Operations
- Marketing: Basic Principles
You will also study one unit from the following business options:
- Management of People and Finance
- Understanding Business – level 5 or 6
And 2 units from the following marketing options:
- Skills for Customer Care
- Event Organisation – level 6
- Marketing Research Practice – level 6
The choice of units will be according to timetable constraints, and not all units will be available in every location.
How will I study my course?
- Part Time
The course is classroom based, and some elements will be delivered by videoconference. If you undertake the Event Organisation unit, you will collaborate in the planning and delivery of an event in your local area, which will involve experiences in the wider community.
How long will my course last?
The course will require a total of 200 hours of study, and would normally be completed within one academic year.

What can I do on completion of my course?
You may wish to progress to NC Business at level 5, which is a full-time course. Alternatively you can study a number of units from the full-time course on a part-time basis.
