Computing with Digital Media SCQF Level 5 NC

What is special about this course?

This course is suitable for school leavers or other young people looking to improve their skills in computing, digital media, web development, networking or computer games. It may also be attractive if you are a mature student wishing to change career direction or return to full-time study.

There are opportunities to study any of the component units on a part-time basis.

Entry requirements

There are no academic requirements for entry to the course, although you should have a genuine interest in digital media computing. This could relate to multimedia business IT computer games or computing.

Those achieving the Computing with Digital Media NC at level 4 will gain automatic entry to the level 5 course.

The course contains the following mandatory units:

  • Computing: Computer Hardware and Systems
  • Computing: Digital Media Elements for Applications
  • Computing: Applications Development
  • Computing: Project
  • Information Literacy
  • Network Literacy
  • Social Media Literacy

In addition, you will undertake a range of optional units in the areas of web design, mobile technologies, digital media, networking or general computing. These options will vary by course location.  Your core skills of communications and numeracy will also be developed.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time
  • Part Time

The course will be delivered in one of our centres. There will be extensive use of online resources to enhance delivery of the course. Some units will be taught using video conferencing facilities by lecturers from other centres, providing a useful introduction to working in a dispersed team.

How long will my course last?

1 Academic Year

The course can also be studied part time over 2 years, or you can choose individual units which can be studied over one semester, usually requiring attendance of one hour and 50 minutes per week.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On completion of this course you may progress to Level 6 Computing with Digital Media or an HNC in Computing or Interactive Media.
