What is special about this course?

Looking to enhance your computing and digital media skills?  

This brand-new course has been designed to build upon everything you've learnt on the Level 5 programme, with a particular focus on working to professional project briefs. It's been developed to prepare you for employment or further study at degree level.  

You'll work collaboratively with your classmates and lecturers on a number of creative projects, such as website development, app creation, video production and computer game design. As you work on these projects, you will build a portfolio to showcase your own work. You'll get hands-on experience working with industry relevant software to further develop your content creation skills.

Entry requirements

  • NC Computing with Digital Media SCQF Level 5, or
  • 3 Nat 5 qualifications in different subjects, or
  • Previous experience in Computing or Digital Media  

You must be 16 years of age at the start of the course and should have access to a computer. Computers are available at your local centre. 

Much of your time will be spent undertaking practical activities such as:  

  • Designing, developing and managing software applications and websites  
  • Creating and editing digital content, such as images, videos and audio
  • Learning how to use industry relevant software and applications like Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Learning ethical hacking and security practices
  • Developing computer games, creating media assets, and programming interactive games  
  • Learning how to use social media platforms for effective marketing and communication

The classroom environment will help to develop your skills in:

  • Responding to, analysing and researching for creative briefs
  • Time and project management
  • Working effectively in teams, including remote collaboration
  • Customer service, through working with local clients

You'll have the opportunity for personal development too and we'll support you to:

  • Gain effective communication skills
  • Build your confidence through practical experience

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Your course will generally be a mix of scheduled local centre-based learning time, and flexible learning time. You need to commit to both, but you can choose when to complete flexible learning to fit around work, caring and personal commitments.
