Beauty Therapy and Treatments NC

What is special about this course?

Do you dream of a career in the beauty industry?  

The NC Beauty Level 5 course will teach you all the basics and give you the hands-on experience required to kickstart your career. You will learn how to practice essential beauty treatments, such as makeup application, facial skincare, nail care, lash treatments, waxing and massage, whilst also gaining an understanding of the science behind the practices.  

You'll spend most of your time in our college salon working with real clients, and learning from experienced lecturers, who have industry expertise as makeup artists and salon owners. You'll have the opportunity to visit local businesses to observe the daily operations of salons and spas first-hand, and gain valuable insight into the professional world.  

There will be plenty of time to practice treatments during class and we'll even provide you with your own beauty kit to take home to practice your new skills.  

Entry requirements

You must be 16 years of age at the start of the course, and

• hold three National 4 qualifications, or equivalent, 
• or have successfully completed Access to College. 

We also welcome applications from individuals with relevant industry experience.

All applications are considered on merit with regards to positive engagement with staff and fellow learners. You may be invited for an interview. 

Much of your time will be spent in the college salon, practicing:  

• How to carry out essential beauty treatments  
• Application techniques, including the use of different tools and products
• Client care and consultations, practicing with your fellow classmates and real clients  
• How to work in a safe salon environment

In the classroom you will:

• Learn the science behind different beauty treatments
• Develop a portfolio to present your practical work  
• Develop product knowledge  

You'll have the opportunity for personal development too and we'll support you to:

• Improve your ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
• Work collaboratively with classmates to build strong relationships and support each other
• Develop skills in time management and organisation 

The units you will study will include:

• Facials – learning how to analyse skin, how to cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturise based on your client's skin needs and desires. Benefits, effects and outcomes.
• Back, neck and shoulder Massage – learn about the body systems, what are the benefits of massage, how to alleviate pain or discomfort, how to apply pressure, how to create relaxation. Different massage techniques.  
• Hand and foot care – identifying nail conditions, how to provide manicure and pedicure, how to care properly for nails, how to apply polish, how to massage hands and feet, how to treat cuticles. Learn about the anatomy of the nail.  
• Waxing – learn about the hair structure, why people choose depilation, how to effectively remove hair, how to do this in accordance with health and safety. 

Equipment

The college will provide tunics and all products and equipment.

Funding

Bursary for Living Costs 

If you are 18 years of age or over on the start date of your course, and will be studying full-time you may be eligible for bursary funding, depending on your household income. Our bursary fund is finite and is allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so it’s important to make your application for bursary as soon as the application process opens in July. You will need to have accepted our offer before you apply. 

If you are under 18 you may be eligible for EMA. EMA is paid at a rate of £30 per week dependent on your total household income.
