Modern Apprenticeship: Aquaculture Production SCQF Level 7
What is special about this course?
Take the next step in your aquaculture career by undertaking the Diploma in Aquaculture Production SCQF Level 7. The apprenticeship is designed to support aquaculture senior marine officers, senior techs, and supervisor roles adopted across different aquaculture subsectors including fish and shellfish production and associated hatchery operations. This qualification equips apprentices with the skills and knowledge they need to progress, whilst gaining the real-word experience required to achieve in this fast-paced industry.

Entry requirements
Candidates should be in employment relevant to the Modern Apprenticeship selected. Candidates usually progress from a qualification in Aquaculture at SCQF Level 5 (SVQ or Diploma) – however in some circumstances, suitable experience will be considered.
Candidates must have been in a suitable job role for this pathway for a minimum of 12 weeks prior to commencing the qualification.
This qualification has been designed in partnership with the Sector Skills Council and Lantra to ensure relevance to the sector.
The Modern Apprenticeship is made up of 4 elements:
- Diploma in Aquaculture Production SCQF Level 7
- Core Skills (embedded in qualification)
- Meta Skills
- Mandatory Enhancement (e.g.Emergency First Aid at Work, RYA Powerboat Handling L2)
Candidates must complete 8 units in total – 5 mandatory and 3 optional.
The 5 mandatory units are:
- Monitoring aquaculture stock health and welfare
- Monitoring aquaculture facilities and equipment
- Monitoring health, safety and security
- Monitoring quality
- Developing Meta Skills and Personal Professionalism
You will engage in practical learning experiences within the workplace, where you'll create evidence-based submissions for your e-portfolio. Additionally, a college assessor will visit to conduct observations to further evaluate your skills and progress.
