Pathways to Care (Child and Health) SCQF Level 5

What is special about this course?

Two perfect options to try if you would like to retrain or find out whether a career in Health and Social care, or in Childcare, is right for you. Taking place for jus 1 day each week makes this the perfect way to fit in learning with your current commitments.

You'll study in a live and interactive online classroom and join students on our full-time Access to Care course. 

Each course last for the whole academic year (August till May) and includes includes a range of Level 5 units.  You will be taught by experienced staff, each of whom has years of experience working in healthcare professions and childcare settings.  This could be the first step towards the rewarding career you've always imagined.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.

Pathways to Healthcare - Course Fee £516

You'll study 6 SQA units:

  • Care: Values and Principles
  • Introduction to Basic First Aid
  • Social Services in Scotland: An Introduction
  • Care: Human Development and Behaviour
  • HIV Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Infections
  • Healthy Eating in a Care Setting

Pathways to Childcare- Course Fee £516

You'll study 6 SQA units:

  • Development and Wellbeing of Children and Young People
  • Care of Children
  • Families in Modern Society
  • Children and Young People: Rights and Protection
  • Maintenance of a Safe Environment for Children
  • Children and Young People: Process of Play

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time

You'll study in your nearest UHI Argyll learning centre and join lecturers and classmates in a live and interactive digital classroom. Our centre staff will support you with the technology required and you'll be allocated a personal advisor to help you get the most from your studies.

Fees

This course consists of 3 SQA units and costs £258.

If you are on a low income or in receipt of certain benefits may receive a fee waiver. Please refer to page 2 of our Fees and Funding Guide to see if you are eligible. You can download a FEE WAIVER FORM here.  If you would like help or advice on fee waiver, please contact your nearest learning centre.

If you do not qualify for a fee waiver, you may be able to apply for an Individual Training Account (ITA) to cover up to £200 the cost of this course.

This course is not available to students who require a Tier 4 Home Office visa to study in Scotland (international or EU).

What can I do on completion of my course?

Once you've completed one of these courses, you may want to consider full time study, such as the NQ Health and Social Care, or an entry level role in a care setting, or consider learning in the workplace with an SVQ or Modern Apprenticeship.
