What is special about this course?
These part time courses will enable you to improve your digital skills and provide you with insights into the world of business.
These courses are delivered over the whole of the academic year and you'll undertake either 3 and 4 SQA units in each semester.
In the Digital Literacy course, you'll gain an NPA which is recognised by employers.
The Self Employment course will provide you will knowledge, skills and confidence to help you get your chosen business off the ground.

NPA Digital Literacies – Course Fee £258
Become a confident digital citizen: explore how to find and evaluate online information, understand how networks work, and use social media safely and effectively. It's ideal for building digital skills for school, work, or everyday life and is a great place to get started if computing is new to you.
You'll study 3 SQA units:
- Information Literacy
- This unit is designed for non-specialists who want to work with digital data acquisition, use, organisation and evaluation. You will learn how to use information tools to find, capture, organise and present digital information and develop knowledge of information theory and critical thinking.
- Network Literacy
- Learn about the productive, safe and responsible use of current network technologies, enhancing your digital skills using computers, smart phones and other connectable devices and the role of connectivity hardware such as routers and switches.
- Social Media Literacy
- In this unit you will learn about the different types of social media that can be used for personal and business application and the impact of social media use on society and businesses. You will learn how to set up social media that adheres to privacy and security protocols.
Self Employment: Getting Started – Course Fee £344
Develop your business idea into a commercial proposition by learning about the stages of setting up and growing a small business, sources of finance and how to promote your enterprise. You will also learn about the challenges and complexities facing small businesses today and the strategies that can be used to ensure your business succeeds.
You'll study 4 SQA units:
- Working for Yourself
- Learn about the requirements of setting up a small business, sources of finance and types of assistance available. Spend time developing your business idea, supported by your lecturer, and understand the stages in starting and growing a small business.
- Contemporary Business Issues
- This unit examines the complexities businesses face today and the strategies that can be used to manage these at different stages of a business's life cycle. Learn how priorities, objectives and functional activity can affect the operations of a small business to prepare you for challenges you may face in your enterprise.
- Promoting a Business
- Learn about how to use the 'marketing mix' and put together a marketing campaign for your business by carrying out competitor research and producing promotional material.
- Enterprise Skills
- Develop your entrepreneurial skills by planning, implementing and evaluation an enterprise activity. You will also research an entrepreneurial role model and their skills, qualities and attributes to inspire you in your business.
NPA Digital Media – Course Fee £258
In this course you will learn how to capture, edit and create digital media product using audio and still and moving images. Gain skills and knowledge in the use of hardware and software to support your creativity and learn how to plan a digital media project from storyboard to final product in line with a brief. This course is perfect for budding content creators or anyone wanting to create media to promote their business.
You'll study 3 SQA units:
- Digital Media: Audio
- Learn how to acquire and edit great quality digital audio for podcasts, mp3 and more. In this unit your lecturer will support you to collect and edit digital audio into a digital product.
- Digital Media: Moving Images
- In this unit you will plan a moving image narrative or storyboard, acquire your material and produce an edited product such as a digital video or animation. You will learn about the required hardware and software, storage media, delivery platforms and legal implications of using digital video or animations.
- Digital Media: Still Images
- Learn how to capture and edit impactful still images using various hardware and software. Learn how to manipulate camera functions and edit still images for a specific brief and how to resolve issues in the production of images.

This course is not available to students who require a Tier 4 Home Office visa to study in Scotland (international or EU).
