Health and Social Care: An Introduction

With a mix of SQA accredited health and social care units, and several short courses such as manual handling, food hygiene and personal grooming, you’ll be well equipped to undertake a role within the industry.

SVQ 2 or SVQ 3 Social Services and Healthcare

Location: Work-based

For a career in the Social Care sector specialising in the care of adults, the SVQ 2 (SCQF Level 6) qualification is where you’ll need to start. All staff working in the Social Services and Healthcare sector at a senior level, like team leaders and supervisors, are required to complete the SVQ 3 (SCQF Level 7) qualification.

These are both work-based, part-time qualifications which will allow you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Work settings could include residential care for the elderly, working in the community, learning disability services, mental health, care at home, and many more.

Do you currently work within a social service, social care or healthcare setting?

These courses are ideal if you want to gain recognition for your work by gaining an internationally recognised qualification based on the practical experience you carry out on a daily basis.

The qualifications assure employers that you have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to work with children and young people, up to the age of 21.

They will also allow you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Support (SVQ 2/SCQF Level 6) or Practitioner (SVQ 3/SCQF Level 7) role.
