Hospitality HNC

Hospitality is a growth industry both nationally and internationally, covering hotels, restaurants, pubs, leisure and travel. It needs good, trained staff and this course introduces you to the supervisory skills required for a successful and fulfilling career.

Our hospitality programmes aim to give you exciting and interesting practical experience in our own kitchens and through our partnerships with external organisations.

SVQ in Food Preparation and Cookery SCQF level 4

Learn the basic skills and knowledge of food preparation and cooking necessary for sous chefs or other entry-level positions in hospitality organisations. Achieve a recognised professional qualification for working in the catering industry.

Students will spend 2 days per week in the college, developing practical kitchen skills and underpinning knowledge, and creating a portfolio of evidence towards the qualification.

SVQ in Professional Cookery SCQF level 5

Learn the basic skills and knowledge of food preparation and cooking. Achieve a recognised professional qualification for working in the catering industry equipping you to work as commis chef or chef de partie.

Students will spend 2 days per week in the college, developing practical kitchen skills and underpinning knowledge as well as spending an additional 2 days per week working in a professional kitchen environment.

Learn the more advanced skills and knowledge required for a career in a professionsl kitchen. Achieve a recognised professional qualification for working in the catering industry equipping you to work as a chef.

Students will spend 2 days per week in the college, developing practical kitchen skills and underpinning knowledge and also additional 2 days per week working in a professional kitchen environment.

Travel and Tourism

This course provides the essential knowledge and skills needed to go into employment in the tourism industry or further study. It is also suitable for those already working in the industry who wish to extend and formalise their knowledge and equip themselves for progression on the career ladder.

The programme is delivered during the winter months, to allow those working in the industry to take advantage of the opportunity to gain training in their chosen field.

Tour Guiding (North Highlands) Cert. HE

This unique one year SCQF level 7 programme aims to create fully trained Tourist Guides for the North Highlands area. Students will achieve a nationally recognised Scottish Tourist Guides Association (STGA) Green Badge qualification, along with qualifications in managing and promoting their own businesses, as part of a higher education qualification which can then be articulated into a number of University of the Highlands and Islands degrees.

This course will appeal to those seeking to work in the tourism industry and those already working there who wish to upskill and gain recognised qualifications
