The NPA in Cosmetology includes five mandatory Units, which cover topics such as Working with others, product awareness, assisting in a workplace, health and safety and career options, working with customers and colleagues.

Beauty Care and Makeup NCGA

When undertaking this award you will study skills which are appropriate to Beauty Care and Make-Up. You will study skills areas which include Customer Care, selling skills, facial skin care, day and corrective make-up and manicure. You may then specialise by undertaking units in nail art, waxing, massage and special make-ups.

SVQ in Hairdressing

This level 1 course will provide you with the basic knowledge, skills and understanding to be a hairdressing assistant in preparing clients for hair services and maintaining work areas. You will learn how to shampoo and condition hair and to blow dry hair. You will also learn how to work as part of a team and assist with salon reception duties.

SVQ in Hairdressing


The aims of this course is to give students the basic knowledge and experience of working in a commercial hairdressing salon. The hairdressing SVQ is assessed in the workplace and/or a realistic work environment.

Students must work in a professional manner taking into account establishment requirements such as appearance and dress code; personal conduct; personal hygiene; reliability and punctuality.

SVQ in Hairdressing


The level 3 SVQ Hairdressing follows on from the SVQ 2, introducing more advanced cutting and colouring to the students. Students will be able to undertake client consultations with less supervision and can work on the floor independently.
