We are recruiting a full time Student Support Officer to join the Student Services team. The post will be based in our Oban Centre and the key tasks will include:
- Creating and updating Personal Learning Support Plans (PLSPs) with any students with declared needs across all centres.
- Supporting students with their additional support needs – both face to face directly in our Oban Centre and via remote platforms such as TEAMS or Webex. There will be the flexibility to work up to two days per week from our lochgilphead centre for the right candidate.
- Providing guidance to teaching staff on how to work with various additional support needs.
- Supporting students to apply for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA).
- Being a named contact for any care-experienced or parentally estranged students across all our centres.
The successful candidate must be able to work empathetically and sympathetically with students who may often be feeling stressed. You should have very good people and communication skills, but also have a very good level of literacy and IT skills. You will need to be able to provide support to students from Access level up to and including degree level work.
There will also be a requirement to undertake training and qualifications leading to being able to complete Needs Assessments for DSA.
You should be educated to HNC or SVQ 3 level or above, and experience in providing additional learning support would be an advantage. Confidentiality is essential.
