The following workshops will be held over the Artmap weekend in the Argyll College Lochgilphead centre:
Introduction to Lino Printing
When: Friday 24th August
What Time: 12pm - 2pm
What's Involved: A basic introduction to the relief printmaking method of lino printing. Lino is a versatile and flexible material which can be carved into in great detail to reveal positive or negative shapes or textures. Join us to go through the entire process, from drawing out a design to carving to printing your design onto quality stock paper. All materials provided.
Basic Decorative Glazing Workshop
When: Saturday 25th August
What Time: 12pm - 2pm (with the option to stay longer)
The workshop will begin with a short demonstration of simple and effective ways to use brush on glazes to decorate bisque (bare pottery).
Then you will be given the opportunity to glaze an earthenware bisque mug with your own design.
The item will then be taken away, dipped in a clear glaze, dried and fired in a kiln.
We will aim to have them ready for collection from the college from the afternoon of 27th Aug.
Cost: From £10. Booking is advisable
When: Sunday 26th August
What Time: 12pm - 2pm
What's Involved: Paper marbling has been used for centuries to create wonderful, simply produced patterns for book covers and decorative wrapping paper. This workshop allows you to experiment with layering colours and creating patterns to achieve an exciting range of paper and cloth samples, and finally decorate a small notebook and several card bookmarks. All materials provided.
All workshops can be booked in advance or turn up on the day and we will try our best to accommodate numbers.
The Lochgilphead Learning Centre is located on Lorne Street, near the town centre.
The building sports eight teaching rooms, six of which have video conferencing and computing facilities. One of the rooms has recently been refitted and is now used as the base for our expanding portfolio of art-based courses.
The centre – which has full Wifi access - runs regular evening classes, and also certificated short courses in practical skills such as dry stone walling and ceramics. It is also the base for courses such as Maritime Skills, a significant proportion of which is spent out on the water.
