Higher Education Student of the Year 2017

Wendy Chance receiving her certificate from Garry McLean (guest speaker), Senior Lecturer at City of Glasgow College  and winner of Masterchef: The Professionals Champion 2016.

The 2017 Higher Education Student of the Year was Wendy Chance from Islay who has successfully completed an HNC in Horticulture this year. Wendy has shown an extraordinary talent for the subject and despite being the only student from Islay participating in the course, she didn’t let isolation affect her studies.

NC Business - Sarah Mottram

Sarah Mottram was named Further Education Student of the Year.  Sarah was unable to attend the Oban Ceremony so Mairi MacCuaig, the centre manager, presented her with her Award at the Argyll College Islay centre on Thursday 6th October.

Laphroaig Learning Legacy

In our first year of the project Argyll College UHI - Islay provided 21 subsidised places on work-related or vocational courses.

The courses delivered in the 2016-17 academic year were as follows:

Health and Safety at Work

Health & Safety Program - RSPH Certificated 1-day Training Course
This course was delivered to 8 students on Wednesday 31st August 2016. The course provides staff with a basic knowledge of all the Health & Safety requirements that should be available and adhered to within the workplace. Candidates will receive a Health & Safety Certificate from The Royal Society for Public Health

Hospitality

100K welcomes

This course was delivered to 8 students Tuesday 9th May 2017. The course is for all customer-facing staff and the objective of this one-day event is to generate awareness and passion leading to a customer focuses approach to deliver top-class customer experiences.

Web Business

Cyber Survival Guide
This course was delivered to 5 students on Saturday 10th June 2017. The course covered web security, how to manage your data online and security measures for your own local network.
