The NC in Technical Theatre aims to provide candidates with appropriate skills and knowledge in drama and theatre performance by providing a core set of Units and wide range of optional Units which can be tailored depending on delivery approaches and facilities. There is a blend of practical and technical work underpinned with theory and research work.
Access to the award is at the discretion of the centre, however candidates would benefit from previous experience of a Drama Course or Units, Standard Grade Drama or National Courses in Drama at Intermediate 1 or 2 or Higher would be appropriate. Moreover, it would be expected that candidates would have an interest and some experience of technical theatre or drama. Relevant work experience would also be acceptable.

Learning and teaching will include lectures, individual and group work reinforced by hand-outs and worksheets. Practical work is essential and should underpin theoretical work in addition to developing practical skills. Real-life scenarios, working in performance spaces and supporting actual theatrical performances and activities will reinforce learning.

Progression from NC Technical Theatre can be to further study at HNC level Technical Theatre up to BA Technical Theatre within UHI. However, it is recognised that successful candidates could possibly find employment as a Theatre technician, in Stage Management and in Theatre Design
