Hospitality NC NC Level 5

What is special about this course?

This course will give you an introduction into hospitality and give you an idea of the scope of the industry, the different aspects and career paths available.

It would suit students entering directly from school or as a change of career, and would also suit someone who wishes to validate their experience in the so as to further their career.

This course will be taught by blended learning with theory classes conducted either face to face or by video conference, depending on your location. The practical parts of the course will be taught in our professional kitchen in Oban, with a mix of demonstrations, hands on experience and cooking for the college canteen and functions

There will be four separate practical blocks during the year, and you will have to travel to Oban to participate in these. The dates of these blocks will be confirmed at induction.

Entry requirements

Having core skills at SCQF level 4 would be an advantage, but an enthusiastic attitude towards the hospitality industry is more important.

The course will have both practical and theoretical elements and will include these topics:
Customer care – the essentials for the industry
Events – an introduction to the events industry
Working in hospitality – a general look at the hospitality
Practical cookery – a chance to try some time in the kitchen
Accommodations, A look at what happens upstairs
Beverages – a wide ranging subject looking a everything from tea to alcohol.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Additional Costs

Students in receipt of bursary or EMA payments will have All PPE provided, and there may also be some financial assistance with travel and accommodations costs associated with the practical blocks.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On completion of the course you can progress to NC Hospitality Level 6 or Professional Cookery Level 6.

Completion of this course will give you a grounding for working in many sectors of the hospitality industry
