What is special about this course?
If you already work within the industry and want to turn your knowledge and experience into a recognised qualification this course is a great place to start. We also welcome students who want a career change or a new challenge.
This course gives a broad look at the various aspects of the Hospitality Industry from kitchen to front of house and you will also gain experience in other areas such as event management.
Four National 4s or equivalent, preferably including Hospitality, or an SVQ in hospitality or cookery, or equivalent qualifications or experience. Applicants with experience in the hospitality industry may be considered on the basis of interview.
The course involves a mixture of practical and theoretical study. Part of the course will be delivered in a hospitality environment, including food preparation in our Oban centre professional kitchen. The course contains the following units:
- Local Hospitality Provision
- Food Preparation Techniques and Cookery Processes
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Service of Food and Drink
- Food Hygiene for the Hospitality Industry
- Hospitality Front Office Skills.
- Customer Care for the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Hospitality Events
- Core Skill – Numeracy, Communication, IT
How will I study my course?

- Part Time
In the main your classes will be delivered by video conference in your local learning centre. You will also be required to attend mandatory practical blocks lasting 3 days, one in each term in our Oban Centre.
How long will my course last?
1 Academic Years
The course will run from September or January. You’ll spend two full days at college during term time.
There will be a mandatory practical block lasting 3 days, in each term. You will need to attend the Oban centre to participate in this.

Hospitality offers a broad range of career possibilities including - wedding planner, event organiser, cocktail bar manager, chef, housekeeper, festival manager, restaurant manager, receptionist, and roles in the care and prison sectors, or the whisky and wine industries.
