Beauty Care and Make-Up NC
What is special about this course?
This course is for you if you have an interest in Beauty and Make-up.
You will develop creative skills in the application of make-up and learn the basic skills required to carry out treatments for face, body, and nails.
There is a combination of theory and practical learning on this course. An element of self-study is also required.
Four National 4s or equivalent.
If you don’t have formal qualifications, but have life experience and a genuine interest in the subject, then we’ll also consider you for a place.
If you do not have the recognised entry qualifications, we will arrange for you to meet with a member of our teaching staff to discuss your study plans.
This course will give you a general introduction to a range of Beauty and Make-up skills and will prepare you for further study.
The units you will study are:
- Facial Skin Care
- Day Make-up and Basic Corrective Make-up
- Bridal and Evening Make-up
- Hair, Beauty and Make-up: Portfolio Presentation
- Eye Enhancement
- Waxing treatments
- Hair, Beauty and Make-up: Personal Care and Appearance
- Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage
- Applying Practical Skills
- Selling Skills
You’ll also develop core skills of Communication, Numeracy and ICT and Customer Care.
There is no work placement element to this course, but you will have the opportunity to practice your new skills in the college’s well equipped salon.
How will I study my course?
- Full Time
Most of the teaching hours will be in the college salon where you will be involved in practical activities. Some time each week will be spent in the classroom, carrying out theoretical work. An element of self-study is also required.
How long will my course last?
1 Academic Year
You will attend college for 3 days per week from September until early June.

NC Beauty Care or NC Make-Up Artistry level 6.
After successfully completing this course you'll have the skills needed to apply for a junior therapist in a beauty salon.
