What is special about this course?

Travel and tourism is an important part of the Scottish and UK economy, Hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism accounts for over 209,000 jobs in Scotland, around 10% of the jobs in this sector in the UK. It includes a wide range of jobs from tour guide and travel consultant to tourist information assistant and conference managers. And, of course, there are the staff who work overseas with Scottish and UK tourists travelling abroad for holidays and business trips.

This course is designed to give you a more in-depth introductory qualification in travel and tourism which will cover the skills needed to work in the sector. You will also develop broad employability skills. Some of the things you’ll learn about include career options, problem-solving and dealing with customer issues, developing travel itineraries (planned routes or journeys), providing information on accommodation, activities, events and attractions communication skills, and travel and tourism in Scotland and the rest of the world. You’ll also learn about job seeking skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entrance requirements; however, you will be interviewed to determine whether this is the right course for you. To get the best out of this course you should enjoy working with others and have a real interest in tourism industries.

Depending on your location you will either study in school or at your local UHI Argyll centre. Elements of this course will be delivered via video-conference.
