ESOL Transactional Contexts Intermediate 1

What is special about this course?

This Unit and has been designed for candidates whose first language is not English but who need to develop their ability to use English in a broad range of transactional contexts .While studying this Unit candidates will develop their competence in the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in English for transactional purposes. Candidates undertaking this Unit will already have a basic command of English and will develop their ability to understand and communicate with reasonable fluency in English in personal and social contexts. 

Subject to sufficient numbers this course will be delivered as a taught class.

Entry requirements

At the discretion of the college although it would be expected that candidates undertaking this Unit will already have a basic command of English.

Candidates who complete this Unit will be able to understand a range of spoken and written texts, write a variety of texts conveying information and complete transactions in a variety of contexts.

The learning outcomes will include Communicating orally in English for transactional purposes; Producing written English for transactional purposes; Demonstrating an understanding of spoken English in a transactional context; Demonstrating an understanding of written English in a transactional context.

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time
  • Evening

Materials will be provided by the tutor as required.

You will receive taught sessions, completing tasks as instructed by your tutor.

The final assessment of this unit consists of 4 Learning Outcomes. Your tutor will tell you when you are ready to take each Learning Outcome. If your performance in the final assessment is satisfactory, you will receive a certificate from the SQA.
