ECDL - European Computer Driving Licence
What is special about this course?
This is an all-round qualification in basic personal computing skills. The qualification is British Computer Society Accredited and demonstrates the increasing importance of computing in all areas of society and is recognised by business and educational worlds. Many employers now ask for ECDL when advertising job vacancies.
None, although students would benefit from having some experience of using a computer. Your Learning Centre Manager will be able to advise you on suitable courses for your level of prior experience.
The course is supported through a weekly taught class in your local Argyll College centre, which will be approximately 2 hours each week. In addition, you will be asked to complete work outside of the class, using online materials which are provided.
You will complete the following 7 modules:
- Basic concepts of IT
- Using a computer and managing files
- Word processing
- Information & Communication (The Internet and Email)
How will I study my course?
- Part Time
As well as your weekly taught class you will have access to a full suite of interactive, online learning materials. You can log on from anywhere with a broadband connection - home, work or your nearest Argyll College Learning Centre.
Each section of the materials is completed by exercises which measure how well you have picked up the essential information from that section. Your tutor can go online to view the results of your exercises, to ensure you are making good progress. If you need to do any further study on any of the sections, your tutor will advise you on that.
If you have problems with any of the exercises, or difficulties in understanding the course, ask your tutor. Your tutor is there to help you with any problems, however small.
Practice test - when you have completed all of the work for a module, you can do a practice test to check that you are ready for your final test. This is an online test very similar to your final module test, and is therefore the best way to prepare for your final test. You need to do this test in the learning centre. You will receive your mark automatically at the end of the test, and your tutor can view your results online.
The results of your practice test will be used by your tutor to decide if you are ready for your final test.
How long will my course last?
